Rain doesn’t stop play

It is remarkable how much more resilient and mature the children are as we come to the end of our forest sessions at PreSchool for this academic year. The staff looked at the forecast and knew that the group could manage a little shower, two months ago we would have had to think twice about staying out for a whole session.

The children arrived enthusiastically into our forest and found Rosy hiding at the base of the Oak tree. We talked about the weather, shelter, waterproofing and dens. The children began their play by making three of their own dens:  tarp roofs, paper signs, beds, zip lines and doors. For snack we made some Elderflower cordial; we sniffed the flower heads and all added sugar and lemon to the mix. Most of us thought it tasted yummy and went well with the choc biscuits.

This week we looked a little at the differences between leaves: Oak, Chestnut and Elder. Forest ‘Homework’ : Make a collage of different leaves, bring it in to share at carpet time.

Last Forest School next week, a special celebration of all the adventures we’ve had in the forest.
