Forest Friends

Today we began with some forest detective work on our way into the forest. We used some collecting bags and an identification sheet to look out for wild garlic, snails, Ash leaves, conkers and sticks that looked like something else. It is wonderful to see how our children are so curious about what they discover in the forest. During the sessions there where lots of conversations about seeds, changes to the trees and plants through the seasons, hibernation and minibeasts.

We also discovered a forest friend that looked a bit like an owl made from sticks and leaves. Many children chose to take on the challenge of creating their own forest friends out of the natural resources they could find. We had to leave them behind but have some photos of them to remind us of our creations.
